Rainy Day Baby Quilt

A very wet, drippy, rainy day here. Although there were a few things we needed to get out and do today, we elected to just stay dry at home. I made some yummy homemade rolls for tonight's dinner (vegetarian sloppy joe's, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and baked zucchini). I also made a (hopefully) yummy zucchini ginger coffee cake for dessert. Once all that was out of the way, I got started on another baby quilt for some family friends who are due in mid October with a baby boy.

I am in the process of trying to reduce my fabric stash so I wanted to make something with material I had on hand. This is not an easy task when your stash is mainly fat quarters and you don't want to spend a lot of time on a quilt. This is the last quilt you will see from me made with fabric other than quilting cottons. My cutting, piecing, and overall accuracy is way better when I use quality fabrics so I am just going to use it exclusively for now on. I never thought I would become a fabric snob but there you go--I am now!!

My goal is to have both the baseball quilt I made for my brother and his new baby and this quilt completely finished and wrapped up by the end of August. I would like to spend September and October sewing and knitting things for our home and for our new baby.

Baby ghan' -interrupted

I wanted to make an afghan for the new baby out of the yarn leftover from my granny afghan. Things were going well until I suddenly ran out of yarn!! I only have enough for maybe two more rounds-darn it!! It looked like sooooo much yarn when I started. When I place my fall/winter projects order to Knitpicks in August, I'll have to get some more Shine Sport to finish this up.

I also finally made the curtains for my son's room although getting a decent pic of them was impossible. I just made a basic, lined, tab top curtain in a very dark denim and used an old sheet top for the lining. Completely blocks out the light which is what I like for bedroom curtains.
I finished up the last two Dresden plate wallhangings that were collecting dust in my project basket. I'll share pics of those soon!

Take me out to the ballgame....

I've been slowly getting back into the crafty mode. Apparently when I am pregnant, I have no desire to craft. It's hard for me to understand why something that is normally such a huge part of my life can be put aside so easily for 40 weeks.

My brother and his wife are due with a baby boy in October. They are doing a baseball theme for their baby's nursery so I decided to go with some Micheal Miller baseball fabrics. I really like the way this turned out.

Huh? Where am I??

Oh yeah, my blog. I have done very little of the crafty nature so I guess I had nothing to post. I spent some time on planet First Trimester which if you've ever been there, time kind of folds and melts and weeks go by slow and gloppy. Luckily I am back to my normal somewhat energetic self and trying to catch up with everything that I let slide while I was away.

I did manage to start this baby granny ghan' for the little boy or girl who will be joining our family sometime in November. Finding myself pregnant again after many years of trying showed me that one should never give up hope.

Let's a-go!!!

I cut up a bunch of 2" strips and.......

Voila!! Super Mario. Like any good mother who was raised in the 80's, I've exposed my son to all the goodness that is Nintendo. Turns out Mario is timeless. I was inspired to make this quilt after stumbling upon other Mario and Nintendo quilts over at Flickr. Who knew? Apparently you can get a screen shot of a video game and lay some grid over it from Photoshop but since I wouldn't even know if I have Photoshop or how to use it if I did, I went low tech on this project. I basically printed out some Mario pics on our black and white printer that was running out of ink and then squinted a lot while transferring the design onto graph paper. I also borrowed some magic markers from my son in order to jazz up my design but that's optional ;). This is block one of four that will make up a twin sized Nintendo-esque quilt for my son. I started block two today.

And now for something completely different

The fabrics arrived for the quilt I have planned out. This quilt will be very different for me. I rarely use solids in quilts and this quilt will be made completely in solids. Stay tuned.

Mini Clapotis Update

Here is my mini clapotis progress. It's almost done. Although I have the yarn to make a few more winter type things, I am just about done with winter. Finishing this is a bit of a chore considering I will probably just have to put it away until next year. I did order the supplies to make two new projects that will be a challenge for me so stay tuned!!
